Privacy Policy
Taxikol is a booking service for motorcycle taxis and tricycles in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, run by Taxikol, Puerto Princesa ("we"). This policy explains what personal data the Taxikol passenger app, the Taxikol driver app and this website collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask of us. We process personal data under the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) and the rules of the National Privacy Commission.
1. What we collect
| Account | Your name, mobile number, and a password if you set one. We confirm the number with a one-time code sent by text message. An email address, if you give one. |
|---|---|
| Photo | A selfie taken in the app when you sign up, and your profile photo if you add one. The driver's photo helps a passenger find the right driver; the passenger's photo helps the driver find the right passenger. |
| Location |
Passengers: your location while the app is open, to set your pickup point and show your trip. The passenger app does not collect location in the background. Drivers: your precise location while you are online, including while the app is closed or in the background. This is how we offer you nearby bookings, show your passenger where you are, and record the route of each trip. It stops when you go offline. While it is collected, a notification stays on your phone saying so. |
| Trips | Pickup and drop-off points, times, the route, the distance, the fare, cancellations and their reasons, ratings and the comments you choose to add. |
| Safety | Emergency contacts you add (name and mobile number); when you press SOS, the time and where you were; notes our operations team makes when they respond. |
| Complaints | What you write in a complaint and any photos you attach. |
| Drivers only | Your address and date of birth; your driver's licence, clearances and other documents we ask for; your vehicle's registration, plate number and photos; your wallet balance, top-ups and the commission on each trip. |
| Device | A notification token so we can send you booking updates; the app version; and, if the app crashes, a crash report that carries your account number but not your name or number. We also record the internet address a sign-in comes from, to detect a stolen account. |
We do not collect your contacts, your messages, your call history or your files, and the apps do not record sound.
2. Why we use it
- To create your account and confirm your mobile number.
- To match a passenger with a nearby driver, show each the other's progress, and calculate the fare.
- To check that a driver is qualified and their vehicle is registered before they can take bookings.
- To keep people safe: to respond to SOS alerts, to call your emergency contacts during an incident, and to investigate complaints and disputes about fares or conduct.
- To keep the driver wallet and commission accurate.
- To send you notifications about your trips and your account.
- To find and fix faults in the apps, and to protect accounts from misuse.
- To meet our obligations under law and to answer lawful requests from authorities.
We process this data to provide the service you asked for (a contract with you), because you consented when you created your account, to protect the life and safety of passengers and drivers, and where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Who sees it
- Your driver or passenger sees what they need for the trip: a first name, the photo, the rating, the vehicle and plate, the pickup and drop-off, and the live position. The mobile number is shown only while the trip is active, so the two of you can call each other.
- People you share a trip with. If you tap Share trip, anyone with the link can see the trip's progress, the driver's first name, the vehicle and plate, and the driver's position, until the trip ends or you stop sharing. The link does not show your name or number.
- Your emergency contacts may be phoned by our team during an incident. We do not message them automatically.
- Our staff, only for their role: reviewing driver documents, operations and safety, and support.
- Service providers who process data for us under agreement: Google (Firebase Authentication for the sign-up code, Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications, Firebase Crashlytics for crash reports, and Google Maps to draw the map); our routing provider, which receives map coordinates and the text of an address search, but not who you are; and the companies that host our servers and this website.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or when needed to protect someone's life or safety.
Some of these providers store data outside the Philippines. We use providers that protect it to a standard comparable to Philippine law.
4. How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep what the service needs.
- When you close your account, you are signed out on every device straight away. After 30 days we remove your name, mobile number, email, photos, emergency contacts and device tokens.
- Trip, payment and safety records are kept after that, without your name or number, because fare disputes, complaints, safety investigations and our accounts depend on them.
- Driver documents are kept for five years after the account closes.
5. How we protect it
Data travels encrypted. Driver documents and photos are kept in private storage, opened only through short-lived links by authorised staff. Staff access is limited by role and every sensitive action is logged. Passwords are stored only in a form that cannot be reversed.
6. Your rights
Under the Data Privacy Act you have the right to:
- be informed of how your data is processed (this policy);
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected — you can change your name and photo in the app yourself;
- object to processing, and withdraw consent;
- have your data erased or blocked — see Delete your account;
- receive your data in a portable form;
- claim damages; and
- complain to the National Privacy Commission (privacy.gov.ph).
Write to our Data Protection Officer to use any of these rights. We may ask you to confirm the request from the mobile number on your account.
7. Children
An account is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
8. Changes
When this policy changes we update the effective date above. If the change is significant, the apps ask you to accept the new version.
